Q: Why Should I Drink More Water Following Massage?

A: (by Dr. Neil & Tamara)

Massage, through a series of varying pressures and movements directed at specific areas of the body, help to relieve tension, break up scar tissue, improve circulation and increase healing. When muscles become stressed, they store chemical toxins that are by products of cellular metabolism.

Massage, especially deep tissue massage, helps to release these toxins into the surrounding tissues, and eventually into the blood stream. These toxins, if not flushed away can lead to cramping, soreness, headaches and other post massage symptoms. By increasing your water intake, you provide the body with enough fluid to dilute the toxins and allow flushing to occur. Very similar to changing the dirty oil in your car.

So, next time you have a massage make sure you have an extra glass or two of water to help flush those toxins and keep you well hydrated.
