Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)

Inflammation of the shoulder capsule that leads to thickening and tightening and eventually causes decreased or limited range of movement. Has a history of improving on its own.

Risk Factors

  • more common in 40 years old or older
  • physical trauma to the shoulder
  • history of diabetes or stroke

    Symptoms

  • Stage I: slow onset of pain, shoulder is "freezing"
  • Stage II: Slow improvement in pain, however stiffness remains, shoulder is "frozen"
  • Stage III: shoulder movement begins to return, shoulder is "thawing"
  • Treatments

  • physical therapy
  • conservative sports chiropractic
