Dr. Neil S. Aguilo, DC

Hi, my name is Teo, and welcome to my Dad's (Dr. Neil's) website page. In case you are wondering, yes that is me peeking over my Dad's shoulder when I was just a few weeks old. I am much older now, I just turned 9 months and I figured I'd be the best one to tell you all about my Dad since I have known him all my life. I'm not even sure where to begin, since he is so old, he turned 408 months this last July!!!

Dad is a 2001 graduate of the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) in Whittier, CA. He specializes in combining sports medicine therapies with chiropractic manipulations (not sure what that means really, but if you want to know more, just email him) and has worked on world class athletes as well as television and movie celebrities.

My Dad has a substantial background treating athletic injuries, motor vehicle accidents and Workers' Compensation (L&I) patients. He recieved his Bachelor's in Science degree from Central Washington University, where he met my mom, Kathryn (Hi Mommy).

After graduating from LACC, he worked in Redondo Beach and Los Angeles, CA, where he worked closely with orthopedic doctors, physical therapists and massage practitioners as well as trial attorneys. In that time he has been a certified Independent Disability Evaluator and a Qualified Medical Examiner for the state of California. In his capacity as a chiropractor, My Dad has had experience treating patients from as young as 6 months (me and some other babies) to as old as 1104 months old!!!. As a Senior Staff Doctor for a well-established Sport Medicine clinic in California, my Dad was responsible for the training of other newly licensed chiropractors in technique and in legal paperwork (i.e. medical charting, Workers' Compensation, report writing, etc.).

In addition to using Diversified Chiropractic Techniques, he also incorporates Gonstead, Activator Methods, SOT, and Myofascial Release techniques in his treatments. He gives dietary/nutritional recommendations and prescribes exercises (i.e. stretches, strengthening, proprioception, etc.) which he designs according to each individual case. He has also had experience with Manipulation Under Anesthesia, Sports Taping and Rehabilitation.

We currently live in Port Orchard with our dog, George. Dad is very dedicated to helping each of his patients improve their overall health by being an honest and upfront doctor and by providing quality, affordable, no gimmick, hassle-free care ( job Dad!!!).

When he's not at work, Dad can be found playing tennis at the local high school, playing chess online or making me laugh (which he is very good at, I might add). He is also an avid reader of fantasy adventure books which he reads out loud so I can enjoy the sound of his voice.

So if your hurting, please give my Dad a try and let him know Teo sent you. As always, if you don't notice any improvement after your first visit, it's free.

The P3 Approach to Treatment

In case you're wondering how my Dad's treatments vary from other chiropractors, here's his approach in a nutshell.

First, he identifies which muscles are involved by visual inspection, range of motion and muscle resistance testing. Once he determines which muscle are tight or hurting, he knows which bones are involved because all muscles attach to specific bones. My Dad can then test each of the bones in question and find out which ones are subluxated. After determining which muscles and bones are involved, my Dad then places the patient on a Spinalator table for 10 to 15 minutes. The table massages the back and helps relax the patient (especially those first time chiropractic patients) as well as the back muscles. This relaxation will have a general effect on all the muscles and the patient may even hear "pops" or "cracks" from the spine that are indicative of relaxing or loosening joints.

After the Spinalator, my Dad will then perform soft tissue therapies to further assist in the relaxation of the muscles and to help decrease any inflammation in the area of complaint. The length of time involved in performing the soft tissue therapy varies depending on the area of complaint. For instance, there are less muscles involved in an ankle injury than a low back injury therefore an ankle treatment is about 1/3 the time of a low back. After the soft tissue therapy, my Dad will ask the patient to move around and see if their range of motion has increased and/or if their pain level has decreased. He may also redo the same range of motion testing or muscle resistance movements from before. If there is a significant improvement, than my Dad says the condition was mainly a muscular issue.

Finally, my Dad will palpate the bones that were determined earlier to be subluxated to see if the subluxation has improved or if it is still present. If needed, my Dad will perform the chiropractic adjustment at this point. He may opt to perform the adjustment manually (with his hands) or use a device (such as the Activator or spinal blocks), this all depends on the comfort level of the patient. After the adjustment, the patient is asked to move around and test the area again. My Dad may even perform the range of motion and/or muscle resistance tests again to see if there was any significant improvement. If the patient improved more following the adjustment than following the soft tissue therapies, my Dad says the condition was primarily due to a subluxation.

There, that's it, I have now given away his secret, hopefully it makes sense to you as it does to him. Oh, and one more thing. Dad says when the patient is ready (meaning not in too much pain) he prescribes excersises to initially improve range of movement and flexibility. Once the patient has reached the "normal" range of movement and increased their flexibility in the area of complaint, the prescribed exercises switch focus to strengthening and stabalizing ones. This should help decrease future chances of reoccurences.

Okay remember, this is my Dad's approach in a nutshell. Depending on your particular condition his appraoch can and will vary. You may not even be a candidate for his approach, if so, he will let you know and refer you to the appropriate doctor (even another chiropractor).

...And now, just for fun, here are some of my Dad's favorite pictures of, who else? Me!!!
